The 2nd round of the Youth Development League (Lower Age Group) took place on Saturday, 30 May, with the composite team of which BAC is a part, in SW Division 1, competing in Guildford.  The other elements of the team are New Forest and Poole Runners. Unfortunately, not the strongest team was able to be present on the day, and the composite team finished 8th of 8 teams, but there were some strong performances from BAC‘s young athletes, with some useful wins and second places.  Amelia Dobson won her Long Jump competition with a jump of 4.77, and, in the same competition, Gemma Kennard was 2nd in the ‘A’ string with a jump of 4.80. Along with Amelia the U13G 4 x 100 relay team also included Rebecca Hannibal and Tola Chilwny, and finished 2nd. Yasmin Bridet won two of her three events, namely 70mH and Shot Putt, with a throw of 6m, although it is fair to point out that Louise Galloway was also competing in the U13G, and threw 6.68 to finish 4th in the ‘A’ competition.   All of our young athletes competed in at least two, and in most cases more, events, and they are to be commended for showing such a competitive spirit – well done, one and all!  The BAC element of the boys’ team consisted of Harry Grubb (300m, 200m), Jim Dence (80mH, HJ, 4 x 400), Fraser Spall (DT,HT, JT), Tom Farwell (1500m, SP,HJ) and Rhys Allen (JT, HJ).  The BAC athletes in the composite girls’ team were Rebecca Hannibal (100m, 200m, JT, 4 x 100 – 2nd), Amelia Dobson (75mH, SP, LJ – 1st B, 4 x 100 – 2nd), Yasmin Bridet (75m, 70mH – 1st A, SP – 1st B), Poly Yule (JT, HJ, 4 x 100), Louise Galloway (JT, SP, LJ), Tola Chilwny (100m, 200m, 4 x 100) and Gemma Kennard (LJ – 2nd A, HJ).  The full results can be found at www.ukydl.org.uk.

Following the 2nd round of the Southern Athletic League at Portsmouth on Sunday 31 May, BAC lie 12th of 20 teams of Division 3 SW, having finished 4th of the 5 teams competing at Portsmouth. There were some excellent performances from BAC athletes, with useful wins and second places, and congratulations to particularly to Jamie Williamson and Danielle Broom for achieving Man and Woman of the Match awards for their High Jump and Hammer respectively, Danielle‘s Hammer throw being a new club record.  Other noteable performances amongst the men were from Cameron Hale, for his Discus and Javelin throw wins, particularly impressive as Cameron was throwing with ‘adult’ weights for the first time, and second place in the High Jump, and Peter Briant for his Discus throw win and second places in Shot Putt and Javelin.  Amongst the women, congratulations to Iona Sheerin for her High Jump win, Olivia Galloway and Danielle Marshall for their second placings in the 200m and 400mH respectively, Madeleine Smith who won the Triple Jump and was second in the Long Jump, Janet Dickinson, who won three of her four events, Triple Jump, Discus and Hammer, and Danielle (Broom) who, in addition to the High Jump already mentioned, won the Hammer and was second in the Shot Putt.  Also, we mustn’t forget Dave (‘Points Machine’) Flicos, who competed in no fewer than 7 events!  The BAC team consisted of, for the men, Dave Flicos (100m,200m, PV, LJ, TJ, SP and HT), Brandon Meredith (200m, 800m), Lewis Sainval (800m, 1500m), Ian White (3000m, LJ), Jamie Williamson (HJ – 2nd A), Cameron Hale (HJ – 2ndB, DT – 1st A, JT – 1st B) and Peter Briant (SP – 2nd A, DT – 1st A, HT, JT – 2nd A).  The BAC womens’ team consisted of Iona Sheerin (200m, HJ – 1st A), Olivia Galloway (100m, 200m – 2nd B, LJ), Danielle Marshall (400m, 400mH – 2nd A), Jessica Greenhalgh (800m, 1500m), Sam Laws (1500m, 3000m), Madeleine Smith (LJ – 2nd B, TJ – 1st A, JT), Janet Dickinson (TJ – 1st A, DT – 1st B, HT – 1st B, JT) and Danielle Broom (SP 2nd A, DT 1st A, HT – 1st A).  Winners or not, every single athlete who took part earned valuable points, so well done to everyone.  Full results (with a bit of navigating through the website!) can be found at www.southernathletics.org.uk. In addition, BAC provided more than its fair share of officials, with Wynne and Ray Munden, Brian Johnson, Hazel Bates, Paul Rees, Paula Broom and Ian Graham all helping to ensure the fixture went smoothly.
