To say that BAC provided quantity rather than quality at the second cross country race of the Hampshire League, at Goodwood on 13 November, would be to detract from some excellent individual performances, especially of the first three BAC members to finish, namely Rob McTaggart, Ian Habgood and Simon Munro. Although Rob's aim to finish in the top 15 was thwarted by a fall, nevertheless a second ambition, to be in the top 20, was achieved. Ian was only just outside the top 20, and was hotly pursued, five places later, by Simon, our continuously improving Club Captain. The next two team places were filled by Tony Chutter and Graeme Miller to bring the senior mens' team to 7th place at Goodwood, and remains 7th in the League table after two races. Although that leaves us two places above the relegation zone, we now have 462 points in total, compared with 958 points held by 8th place Poole Runners, so things would have to go very wrong (eg if we failed to field five athletes in one of the two next fixtures) for them to catch us. On the other hand, 6th place Southampton Athletic Club hold 402 points, so they are there for the taking. The vets team, consisting of Tony Chutter, Nick Kenchington and Ian Graham was 5th (out of 11 clubs who have finished with full vets' teams in both League races), which means we now slip to 2nd in the League table, with 162 points, with 3rd place Andover Athletic Club close behind with 168 points. It was a welcome sight to see Simon Hunt and Mike Farrell competing once again, although both are clearly well short of their potential form after long periods of injury and lack of training. The only other complete BAC team at Goodwood was the U15 boys' team, consisting of Joe Arundel, Declan Toth and Brendan Kirkton, who now lie 6th in the table.
