There were some good results for BAC at the second fixture of the Hampshire Cross Country League at Goodwood on Saturday, 12 November, with the Senior Mens' Team maintaining 2nd position in Division 1, and Bridget Dence again winning the U13 Girls' race.
The first BAC athlete to cross the line in the Senior Mens' race was Ian Habgood, fulfilling an aim to finish in the top 10. This would be a considerable achievement in any Hampshire League mens' race, but particularly so at Goodwood, where there was no doubting the quality of the top end of the field. Next in for BAC was Steve Way, returning to form, and then Jacek Cieluszucki, still enjoying the cross country running, and the final two scorers for BAC were club captain Simon Munro, and Robin Copestick. The excellent runs of all our team members meant that the BAC team was 2nd, again behind Aldershot, Farnham & District (as expected!), and one point in front of third-placed Southampton AC. The closeness of this result demonstrates the importance of each individual team member's run, and, had Robin Copestick not made a last-minute decision to compete at Goodwood, we would have finished third behind Southampton.
Further down the field, we welcomed two new members, Gabriel Nicholson and Laurence Plant, who were introduced to the club by Paul Hindle, who also competed, despite primarily being a 400m hurdler! Paul, Laurence and Gabriel are all students of Bournemouth University (at the Chiropractic College).
In the U17 Mens' race, BAC's team, led by Josh King, were 6th on the day, but, aggregating the result with the first fixture at Farley Mount, are lying fourth in the League. The quality of our U17 men cross country runners (Josh, Declan Toth, Harry Horton-Hill and Brendan Kirkton) augurs well for the future. In the U15 Boys' race, BAC was again represented by Lewis Golden and Corrie Norton, also ones for the future.
The only absolute BAC winner of the day, however, was, again, Bridget Dence, in the U13 Girls' race. Many congratulations to Bridget, who continues to show great form. Well done also to Ella Sykes, who is becoming a consistent competitor for the club.
