Hampshire Cross Country League - Farley Mount - 13th October 2012

The Hampshire Cross Country League opened, as is customary, with the fixture at Farley Mount on Saturday 13 October. At the time of writing (Sunday morning) the results aren't available, but these aren't required to report that the Senior Mens' race was won, very convincingly, by BAC's Steve Way (33.08)! This was exactly the type of form Steve was looking for in advance of his International 50k race in Italy in one week's time, when Steve will be wearing an England vest. However, BAC's Senior Mens' team didn't have the strong start to this season's campaign as happened last year. A few days before the fixture, it was beginning to look as if we were going to field only two, or perhaps three, athletes who would finish in the top 30 or so, but fortunately Simon Munro, doing a Captain's job, was able to persuade Simon Way to compete which made a huge difference, saving the team a massive 145 points, as a result of Simon W's 51st finishing position (39.05). Simon M himself had a quality run, as evidenced by an outstanding 16th placing (35.46). Simon was followed by David Long, also running very, very well to finish 28th (36.45). The Senior Mens' team was completed by our third Simon of the day, Simon Hunt, finishing 169th (45.34). Last in of the Senior Men was Ian Graham, 196th (47.17), fortunately not having to count to the team score! However Ian's participation meant that we had a Veterans' team, consisting of Simon W, Simon H and Ian, although, at the time of writing, the positions of either the Senior Mens' or the Veterans' teams are not known. Corrie Norton is proving himself to be a BAC stalwart, and was the only BAC competitor in the U17 Mens' race. Corrie appeared to be having a solid run, but, at the moment, his position isn't known. It is, perhaps, a pity that Corrie wasn't supported by any more of our U17 Men to complete a team.

Results now in - Corrie Norton was 30th of 56 finishers in the U17 Mens' race in a time of 18.38. The Senior/Veteran Mens' times have been added in above. The Senior Mens' team was 6th out of 9 complete teams (there was one incomplete team) in Division 1 - a position from which we can clearly recover! The Veteran Mens' team was 5th of 11 teams in Division 2.
