The second Cross Country race of the 2012/13 Hampshire League season at Goodwood on 10 November was marked, for BAC, more by some excellent individual performances, rather than team results. To mention first the oustanding performance of the day, Bridget Dence, now no longer U13, finished the U15 Girls' race in an incredible 4th position. The Senior Mens' team saw four superb runs from Jacek Cieluszcki, clearly recovered from the Lake Garda Marathon, David Long, running well beyond his years, and just outsprinting Rob McTaggart, and Simon Munro, whose time and position did not reflect the fact that he has just recovered from a cold. Had these four been supported by just one more finisher in the top 50, this would have been a good team result for BAC. Fortunately, Simon Hunt competed, which meant Ian Graham's 187th position didn't count! As Simon and Ian were the only two veterans to run, the veterans' team was incomplete, which means BAC vets are out of the race for this season. Corrie Norton was supported at Goodwood by other BAC U17 men, which meant that there was an U17 Mens' team, led home by Jo Arundel, whose quality run brought him home in 12th position. Jo was capably supported by a solid run from Corrie, and also Brendan Kirkton and Harry Horton-Hill. Lewis Golden ran well to finish 30th in the U15 Boys' race, and congratulations to Glen Balfour for his magnificient run to finish 12th in the U13 Boys.
The Senior Mens' Team were 7th of 9 complete teams in Division 1, and, in the table, now lie in 6th position, with City of Portsmouth hovering very, very close in 7th. It is, perhaps, a long shot to expect a repeat of last season's success in this League, but, with three races still to go, there is ample opportunity to improve our position. In both of the first two races, had we had one more athlete in the top 40/50, to support the leading four, the position now would have been very different. Let's hope we can field strong Senior Mens' teams in the remaining races, and show everyone what we know BAC is capable of!
