Hampshire League Cross Country - Reading - 19th October 2013

The 2013/14 Hampshire Cross Country League season opened at Prospect Park, Reading on Saturday 19 October. In the Senior Mens' race Josh Cole led the BAC contingent over the finishing line, an impressive 24th of a total of 212 in a time of 28.37. Not far behind, in a sprint finish, Robin Copestick and Rob McTaggart battled it out for 28th and 29th positions, with Robin taking the former in 28.54, one second ahead of Rob. Simon Munro took 36th place in 29.35, a good result considering Simon had returned from two weeks holiday only two days earlier. The main priority was that we finished with a full team, and the contributions of Nick Kenchington, who was 115th in 34.11, and Mike Farrell, 187th in 40.52, were vital to ensure this was achieved.  BAC's Senior Mens' team placing is 6th of 9 complete teams. To realise our potential in this League we do need five athletes to finish in the top 40, or less, and had we had one more in the top 40 we would have moved up to at least 4th position, considerably nearer the 2nd or 3rd final placing of which the club is without doubt capable. Bridget Dence's season started well, as, in the U15 Girls' race, Bridget was 5th of 81 finishers in a time of 10.29, and, staying with the girls, in the U13 Girls' race, Elsa Charlwood was 34th of a total of 82 in 10.21. Jeremy Clay was our representative in the U17 Mens' race, finishing 47th of 54 in 21 minutes exactly, and, in the U13 Boys' race, of 81 finishers, in 63rd was Harrison Sheehan (11.46) and 75th was Bridget's brother Jim Dence (12.31).
