BAC congratulate all eight and their respective coaches for reaching English Schools Standard and thus being selected. We also hope they enjoy the competition which is to be held at the Alexander Stadium Birmingham on 5th and 6th of July. We wish them the very best of luck.
We hope to have a group photo of the eight on the BAC website soon.
We appreciate how hard many other BAC athletes tried and came so close to reaching English School Standard in their age group.
English Schools Championships date back to 1925. It is possibly the biggest athletics competition of it's kind in the world. Each county is allowed to enter up to 25, 50 or 60 competitors depending on the school poulation of the county. As well as competing as individuals, the athletes are able to score points for their county if they finish in the top eight of their competition. Dorset are in Group C, being allowed to enter up to 25 competitors. Hampshire are allowed to enter 60 athletes and are in Group A. An athlete can only be picked to compete in one event. Dorset, I am fairly sure, finished 2nd in Group C in 2011 but did win the Senior Girls title in Group C the same year. They have only once finished top in group C, that was in 2001. Hampshire have never been top of group A."
