Fresh from his wins at the Poole Runners Championship mile (at which he was invited to compete, and proceeded to show them how it should be done), and the BAL fixture 5000 the day before (see track & field results), Steve Way won again, at the Portland 10 on 4 July, and, in so doing, led the BAC mens team to victory in the race, and also, the team now having won all seven of the League races so far, to the League Championship for 2010 - with 5 races still to go! Had it not been for the intervention of Andy Clements, in 4th place, this would have been a repeat of the 'first five finishers all BAC' of the Puddletown Plod, but this was more than made up for by the fact that the three in front of Andy were all BAC (Steve Way, followed by Ian Habgood and Mark Hargreaves in a close contest for 2nd and 3rd places) as were the three following (Ian White, Robin Copestick and Simon Munro, who continued his habit of achieving PBs - this time in the Portland 10, a race with which Simon is very familiar). In 14th place, in a remarkable time of 63.53, was Chris Birch, smashing the course record for his age group, which had previously stood at 66.04.Furthermore, we can report on an impressive performance by our ladies' team of Carley Rose, Janie Chapman and Cherry Sheffrin. Carley, having only just transferred to BAC, was ineligible to count for the 'open' team race, but does count for the League team, which, in this race, came top of League Division 2. With 5 races still to go, there is the exciting prospect of a ladies' team win in the League, as well as the mens! Had Carley counted, the BAC ladies would have been 2nd overall in the open race.
