During the presentation of the awards for this race, the organiser said that those watching the finish were wondering at one point if all the competitors were wearing yellow shirts - hardly surprising when BAC athletes bagged all of the first places! Leading the yellow tide was Ian Habgood, and entitled as Ian may be to be satisfied with his run, some disappointment that he missed his target of the course record (held by Robin Copestick) by one solitary second would be understandable. (Ian did go on to achieve his target of sub 53 for 10 miles the next day in the Great South Run - see 'Other Results' below.) Although about 2 ¾ minutes separated Ian from second-placed Jon Sharkey, this can be accounted for by the fact that Jon perfectly paced the race as planned at marathon pace throughout. In third place was Simon (pb) Munro, who knocked nearly 1 minute off his previous 10 mile PB - although it's possible to joke about Simon's seemingly never-ending PBs (perhaps the time will come when they cease, but hopefully not for a very long time yet), anyone who witnesses his training will know that these are coming about as a result of sheer hard work. In fourth place was Ian White, who collected the wine awarded to the first veteran, and Robin Copestick completed the BAC League team. Once again, Chris Birch was the first O60, in a time to which many much, much younger athletes can only aspire.
