Puddletown Plod 12 June 2011

After weeks of lack of rain, Mother Nature chose the day of the Puddletown Plod 20k Road Race to start to put things right! In pouring rain, which continued all through the race (and for most of the day), BAC returned to winning ways in this, the 7th Road Race League of 2011, held on 12 June. Ian Habgood and Jon Sharkey crossed the line together to win the race, with Simon Munro in third place, running yet another PB (although, to put this in context, Simon has run this race and distance only once before!), and Simon Way and Graeme Miller making up the BAC League team. Janie Chapman, as our only lady runner, won the ladies' competition outright, as well, of course, as finishing as the first Lady Veteran - this was despite the lack of a marshall at a junction at the time Janie arrived, which meant that Janie and a number of other runners went off course and ran an extra half mile. The BAC contingent was completed by Michael Halpenny, who seems to have recovered from his mammoth point-scoring efforts at the Southern Mens' League fixture a week earlier! Due to their involvement in the Welsh Castle Relays the same day, Poole Runners clearly fielded a weakened team, but a look at the results shows that Wimborne AC and Poole AC are there or thereabouts, so we definitely cannot afford to relax! The next League race is the Swanage Half Marathon on 16 July.
