Congratulations to Ian Habgood on breaking the course record in the Weymouth 10 (mile) on Saturday 22 October. However, what would have been Ian's new record doesn't stand, as he was second in the race to Poole Runners' Williard Chinhanhu, who now holds the record - congratulations also to Williard. Nevertheless, a fine performance from Ian, who led home a total of nine BAC competitors (another six were to compete in the Milford 5 the next day – see separate report), amongst whom were some County Championship medal winners (including Ian himself), and the second Senior Mens' team (to Poole Runners) in both the Open and League competitions. As this 50th running of the Weymouth 10 was also the 10 mile County Championship race, Steph Slade, as the second Dorset lady across the line, won a County silver medal, and Janie Chapman added to her tally of County medals, with the ladies' bronze, and ladies' masters gold. Of course, Ian Habgood won his second County silver. The fact that the race has reached its 50th year was celebrated by the issue of a special T shirt or vest, which was worn by most of the competitors, and a display of press cuttings going back to the first race in 1962, which must have taken an enormous amount of work to assemble, but, especially for those who have been around for some years, was a nostalgic look back making the effort involved in its preparation well worthwhile. Hopefully, this well-organised race will continue into its 51st year.
