Swanage Half Marathon - 14th July 2012

A very strong mens' BAC team competed in the Swanage Half Marathon, part of the Swanage Regatta and Carnival, on Saturday morning 14 July. On a blustery day, with, at one point, some heavy rain, Steve Way and Ian Habgood, having run much of the course, by agreement, together, crossed the line more-or-less together, but, although both were credited with the same time of 1.13.46, it appeared that the time-keepers were able to distinguish them by a hair's breadth, and Steve was declared the winner. Later, as Ian received his silver medal, as second Senior Man, Steve called out "joint winner"! In third position overall was Jacek Cieluszecki, finishing in 1.14.33, thus winning a bronze medal, and completing the Dorset Road Race League team for BAC, were Peter Thompson (1.16.18) in fifth place, closely followed in sixth by Club Captain Simon Munro (1.18.54). The full set of yellow vests was broken only by Lee Piercy, finishing fourth. Lee has been a familiar sight at BAC training sessions, and after the race declared his intention to join up - good news indeed! Another winner in the race was Graeme Miller, who had an excellent run to finish ninth, and first Vet, in 1.23.52. Completing the BAC contingent were Ian Graham (1st V60) finishing 55th in 1.35.12, Andy Gillespie, 94th in 1.39.08 and Club Chairman Dave Parsons, 158th in 1.45.05. There were no fewer than 515 finishers.
