Boscombe 10K - 25 November 2012

In the final Road Race League event of the year, the Boscombe 10k on Sunday 25 November, Club Captain stormed to victory, followed in second place by Graeme Miller. Simon set out his stall very early in the race, which starts (and finishes) on the Kings Park athletic track, as by the time he left the stadium, only 300 metres or so into the race, there was already a large gap between him and the chasing pack. Simon later said he couldn't understand how this happened, as "the first 300 metres is the fastest part of the course"! By the time Simon finished, his lead had grown to more than 1 1/2 minutes over Graeme, who nevertheless was very pleased with his run, which was only 5 seconds adrift of his PB, over a course which no-one describes as a PB course, particularly bearing in mind how recently he ran a marathon PB. Poole Runners were present in strength at the front end of the race, which meant they won the Open team prize, but, following first and second positions, the remainder of BAC's League team, Duncan Wells, Jud Kirk and Paul Consani ran times which secured a second place in the League, a satisfactory result showing that BAC continues to compete, despite having already won the League for 2012. Simon Hearn must have been pleased with a time less than 20 seconds outside his PB, and further down the field, a battle developed between Joe Price and Ian Graham, who overtook Joe at about 8k, but Joe hung on, and was able to outsprint Ian in the closing 50 metres. BAC's two remaining runners were Andy Gillespie, more of a longer distance runner, and Joe's Dad, Will Price, who runs for fun these days.

Results (BAC):
1. Simon Munro 35.14; 2. Graeme Miller 36.45 (1st V40); 33. Duncan Wells 39.41; 34. Jud Kirk 39.45; 46. Paul Consani 40.47; 55. Simon Hearn 41.19; 77. Joe Price 43.04; 78. Ian Graham 43.06 (1st V60); 120. Andy Gillespie 45.08; 359. Will Price 56.31. There were 537 finishers.
