Poole 10k - 27th May 2012

On a day when resources were divided, with Ian Habgood, Jon Sharkey and Rob McTaggart competing in the BAL at Derby, a total of 17 BAC Senior Men and 2 Senior Ladies competed on a very hot afternoon in the Poole 10k on Sunday 27 May, part of the Poole Festival of Running, a massive event organised with incredible efficiency by Poole Runners, starting in the morning with childrens' races, and finishing, long after the main 5k and 10k races have concluded and the prizes awarded, with entertainment and a bar extending well into the evening. BAC's open team in the 10k race of Steve Way, Jacek Cieluszecki, Peter Thompson and Mark Hargreaves (who now leads the 10k Championship Table), were second to Poole Runners - whether there is any truth in the rumour that Steve Way, finishing fourth very close behind Poole Runners' George Miller, deliberately gave up third position as his resulting award was beer rather than cash isn't known! Simon Munro completed BAC's Dorset Road Race League team. The race was won in a course record time of 29.37 by Kenyan Emase Lemuya, and second was an Ethiopian, Tadele Geremew, in a time of 31.38. In the Ladies' race, BAC was represented by Helen Ambrosen, first FV55, and Janet Dickinson - Janet had run a PB of 47.07 for 10k in the Purbeck 10k 10 days earlier, but the heat of 27 May affected Janet in the way that it affected all the competitors, so that the inevitable improvement on the PB will have to wait for another day!
