Despite the forecast of a repeat of the heavy rain which made conditions very difficult in the Puddletown Plod two years ago, the 20k race took place in favourable weather on Sunday 16 June, and the BAC team produced their sixth win out of six Dorset Road Race League races this year. Even putting aside the fact that our competitors weren't present in the strength of which they are capable, this was an impressive result. Ian Habgood was the outright winner (as he was at the last League race) and in third place was Club Captain Simon Munro, again leading by example. Despite running 10 miles or so before the race (and winning the Littledown Marathon the day before!) in preparation for his 100k race in a few weeks time, Steve Way was fifth (and first Vet) to complete the winning Open team event, and the League team was completed by Graeme Miler (ninth) and Robin Copestick (eleventh). Janie Chapman was the outright winner of the Ladies' race, a considerable achievement considering her Veteran status, and, of course, won the award for the first FV45. Even though he proved that two weeks walking does nothing to improve running, Ian Graham nevertheless won the award for first V65, and it was good to see Michael Halpenny returning to competition after such a long period away through injury.
1. Ian Habgood 1.09.12; 3. Simon Munro 1.10.26; 5. Steve Way 1.12.10; 9. Graeme Miller 1.15.11; 11. Robin Copestick 1.17.18; 30. Janie Chapman 1.24.07; 73. Caroline Rowley 1.34.19; 75. Steve Cox 1.35.21; 105. Ian Graham 1.39.19; 109. Michael Halpenny 1.39.40. There were 249 finishers.
