Every Wednesday evening Bournemouth Athletic Club runs a Junior Development session to provide the opportunity for children 8 – 14 to take part and receive coaching in running, jumping and throwing activities.
An information leaflet about the evenings is available to download here.
These sessions take place at the Athletics Stadium in Kings Park each Wednesday from 6 pm to 7.30 pm. The activities are supervised by UKA qualified coaches, all of whom have DBS certificates. Once registered and accepted, it is essential to attend by 5.45 pm each Wednesday so that attendance can be recorded before the activities commence.
Bournemouth Athletic Club is committed to providing a high standard of coaching to all of our young athletes. As a club, we also have a desire to encourage and support our athletes to progress to competing for the club at competitions.
As a step towards these objectives, Parents/Guardians are requested to pay for their young athletes’ participation in advance for a fixed 10 week training block to demonstrate a commitment to the sport. We also require participants to become members of the Club. The year will be made up of 5 fixed 10 week blocks with a 2 week break over the Christmas and New Year period. The Club limits the total number attending to a maximum of 160 per week to ensure that the participants receive the maximum benefit.
The Club currently has a lengthy waiting list of children wishing to join. The Club’s policy on this waiting list is available here. Children can be added to the waiting list by completion of a registration form.
These registration forms are available from the office at the Athletics Stadium at Kings Park. Please note, however, that it is likely to be some time before a place will become available.
Training block dates for 2022 are as follows:
- Training Block 1: Wednesday 5th January – Wednesday 9th March 2022
- Training Block 2: Wednesday 16th March – Wednesday 18th May 2022
- Training Block 3: Wednesday 25th May – Wednesday 27th July 2022
- Training Block 4: Wednesday 3rd August – Wednesday 5th October 2022
- Training Block 5: Wednesday 12th October – Wednesday 14th December 2022
- The cost of each 10 week training block will be £25 for BAC members and Membership forms for joining BAC can be obtained from the office.
There will be a maximum age of (up to and including) 14 years catered for on a Wednesday Development evening. From the age of 15, young athletes will be expected to move to Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday training (depending on availability) if they wish to continue with their training. In addition, as athletes progress through the group, they will be encouraged to move to other club nights where appropriate to allow for spaces for those on the waiting list to join.
At the point of registration, all Parents/Guardians will also be asked to sign a code of conduct on behalf of their children (please see important notice below). This is designed to ensure that an expected level of behaviour and commitment is adhered to by all.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Parents/Guardians will be handed the Club’s ‘Code of Conduct – Parents with parental responsibility’ (see link here) and the ‘Code of Conduct for young people engaged in athletics activities’ (see link here), and asked to acknowledge receipt. The Club also has a ‘Coaches Code of Conduct’ which can be seen here.
All of our Codes of Conduct can be found on this page of our website.
